Just Sittin'

Spent the last week and a half just sittin'. We've been at my parent's place in Tennessee so its been the good kind of sittin'.

We've actually done a lot more than just sit around, but I'll share that later. First I wanted to share a few of my favorite places to sit around when I'm at my mom and dad's place.

Number one favorite place to sit at my parent's is, without a doubt, the back porch. I spent HOURS sitting in the swing as teenager reading book after book after book. I'd wager 75% of my summers were spent here. I think I made a good choice! Not a big porch person, or just want to get out in the sun....this is a great place to do it! My sister and I spent quite a bit of time sittin' here while she was down for the weekend from Nashville.

Another fun place to relax is the barn. I like to just putter around and find all the new projects Mom is busy with. Or sit and watch her chickens.

I don't usually sit here...its a little too warm inside. But I like to stand and look at Mom's greenhouse. If I ever have one, I'd love to have a green house like this one! Daddy built it for her our of old windows and an old door. I love it!

And if one wanted to, there is room to sit inside.

From the greenhouse, I always find myself wondering into the garden.

Lots of fun things to discover in here... ...including a scarecrow. He used to wear my papaws old overalls, but I think those probably fell apart many summers ago.

Mamma's beans...
...and the fountain is the centerpiece.

Its like a fairy tale garden.

There are always surprises, like this lily. Of all her lilies, I think this one was my favorite.

And there are lots of friends to be found too. Mom suspects a deer has been nibbling off her violets at night. I didn't get to see him or her, but there were other's lurking around.

From the garden, I seem to always find my way to the pond, where there is a concrete bench to sit on and enjoy the songs of frogs, crickets, and other critters. The splash of fish, occasionally a heron stalking the shallows, turtles sunning themselves, etc.

Or you can face the other direction on the bench and enjoy the view of my childhood home.

I enjoyed all the sittin' this week, but the girls have been staying busy busy busy!
With all their activity, they have stayed thirsty too, and Ella discovered Mom's water fountain out front. She's the only one who figured out how handy it could be.

Carlie Jean did lots of running...as usual!

And Paris enjoyed lots of snooping...from the comfort of the concrete. She's never been much of a grass girl. Its too prickly for her taste.
I like to chill on the front porch as well. This is where Mom and I spent many hours watching storms and birds and nature. Its a great place to relax as long as the bugs leave you alone!
But on this day, Carlie Jean and I soon decided that at 98 degrees, it was a little warm, not to mention humid, to be sittin' around outside. So soon after these pictures were taken, we retired to the living room inside....
...where I am now.
We're hitting the road again in the morning. Its been nice just sittin', but all good things must come to an end. Its time to head back to work. We'll be leaving after lunch and heading to Mississippi. Hope you all had a great July 4th! I'm looking forward to catching up with your blogs!

What a beautiful and restful place for you to go! It should be in a magazine. I got your comment on my blog, but it had doubled up and when I went to delete one of them they both disappeared. Boo! But thanks for your comment!
